Founded in 1948, they reached the Cypriot First Division for first time in 2005. However because of their inexperience, they came last with only 7 points and were relegated to the Second Division after only one season in the higher league. ThOI achieved only one win in the First Division, beating Olympiakos Nicosia in the Neo GSP Stadium.
The following season, they once again came close to being promoted to the First Division, while they were fourth, one point behind the third position, which gains promotion to First Division. At their last match, they had to play against the third placed team Doxa Katokopia, and they needed a victory to be promoted to the First Division, while Doxa could be satisfied with a draw to gain promotion. Doxa's stadium was the site of the match, which ended 2–2 and resulted for promotion for Doxa with THOI remaining in the second division thus not achieving the success of 2005.
